Well Intentioned Bottlenecks: Why Work Feels Harder Than It Should
Paul BarrettOct. 26
Neil Chaudhuri is the president of Vidya, a modernization firm in the Washington DC area. He has spent 25 years building systems for commercial and government customers including the State Department's Online Passport Renewal, which processes thousands of passports daily at a 97% customer satisfaction rate. He teaches Vidya's Modern Agile and Practical AI for Business courses and holds PMP, Certified ScrumMaster, and Certified Scrum Professional certifications. The Agentic AI Foundation named him an Ambassador, one of only 138 worldwide, to promote the value of AI standards. He was also a member of the GAO Agile Expert Group.
Agile delivers in small batches for fast feedback. AI is in many ways the antithesis of agile. Generating code became cheap. Leaders who equated code generation with software engineering and product delivery were eager to dismiss core principles and declare agile dead on LinkedIn. Only recently are they beginning to realize their mistake. DORA research found AI adoption increased throughput and decreased stability. Generating code faster produces large batches, which move slower and break more. That was predictable to us, but the same research found something more interesting. While AI alone may marginally improve performance, pairing AI with agile values amplifies it dramatically.
This session embraces the wisdom of agile icons like Farley, Tabaka, and the Poppendiecks as well as DORA findings on delivery performance and SPACE findings on developer experience to describe how you can use AI to reinforce agile values. We will explore how Agent Skills and Model Context Protocol build a "culture of context" that eliminates waste in the value stream. You get better outcomes for your customers and you have fun doing it. You will leave with a catalog of Agent Skills for the entire value stream and a strategy for continuous improvement.
